EMA supports pilot for joint medicine evaluation in Africa to establish African Medicines Agency
2. August 2024 – The European Medicines Agency (EMA) granted funds to the African Medicines Regulatory Harmonisation (AMRH) initiative of the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) to support a one-year pilot for joint medicine evaluation in Africa. Co-funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, this pilot aims to validate procedures for the creation of the African Medicines Agency (AMA). AMRH committees will assessthe quality, safety, and efficacy of priority medicines, facilitate national approvals of recommended medicines and help develop continental processes and improve information sharing.
