16 June 2023 – At its meeting on 21 June 2023, the Federal Council adopted the final report on the financial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on health care payers. The final report summarises the two interim reports and supplements them with the figures for 2022 and information on the costs in the cantons. The focus is on the direct healthcare costs of the Covid-19 pandemic borne by the Confederation, the cantons, insurers and insured persons in the years 2020 to 2022. For the Confederation, these have amounted to around CHF 5 billion, while the direct health costs for the cantons have ranged between CHF 2.3 billion and CHF 2.9 billion.
