6 August 2024 – Swissmedic has launched the first module of the new "swissdamed" platform. The debut of the "Actors" module enables the online registration of economic operators, marking a crucial step in enhancing transparency and oversight in the Swiss market. Designed to align with EU regulations, "swissdamed" mirrors the corresponding modules of the European "EUDAMED" database to maintain consistency between Swiss and EU standards and reduce administrative burdens for market participants. The platform will eventually include a second module, the "Devices" module, which will be introduced stepwise starting in 2025. This module will facilitate the registration of medical devices, including in vitro diagnostic medical devices. Mandatory device registration will be implemented once "swissdamed" is fully operational and necessary legal adjustments are completed.
