FOPH: Inclusion of podiatry in compulsory health insurance viewed positively
9 September 2025 – Podiatrists and podiatry organisations have been approved as service providers under compulsory health insurance for treatments aimed at preventing complications in persons with diabetes since 1 January 2022. This regulation has now been evaluated, with the overall assessment being positive. However, several areas were suggested for improvement.
According to the evaluation report, podiatry services are underutilised. A possible reason for this could be the shortage of qualified personnel. Therefore, the report recommends increasing the number of training places or the targeted support to podiatrists in gaining admission to the compulsory health insurance.
