FOPH: Switzerland to introduce Electronic Health Dossier as part of digital health overhaul
7 May 2026
At the Transform 2026 conference, FOPH Director Anne Lévy outlined Switzerland's plan to replace the existing Electronic Patient Dossier (EPD) with a new Electronic Health Dossier (E-GD) by 2030. Under legislation currently before Parliament, all residents would automatically receive an E-GD free of charge on an opt-out basis, with a broader range of providers required to use it. The E-GD forms part of the wider Swiss Health Data Space (SwissHDS), which aims to establish common standards for secure health data exchange. Progress may however be affected by federal budget cuts taking effect from 2027.
