EMA: EMA and EISMEA strengthen cooperation to accelerate health innovation

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA) have strengthened their cooperation to support health innovation in the European Union by signing a new letter of intent accompanied by a 2026–2027 rolling work programme. Building on their collaboration since 2021, the initiative aims to help innovative SMEs, start-ups, research organisations and universities better understand EU regulatory requirements and prepare innovative medicinal products and medical technologies for successful development. The cooperation will focus on regulatory readiness, horizon scanning, training, scientific guidance and stakeholder engagement, with the objective of accelerating the development of safe and effective health technologies while strengthening the competitiveness of the European life sciences sector. According to EMA, joint training activities have already increased awareness of its regulatory support tools among innovators, with most participants reporting a positive impact on product development and regulatory strategy.
