EMA Draft Guideline on Quality Requirements for Drug-Device Combinations

7 juin 2019 – The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has released a draft guideline on the quality requirements for medical devices in human medicines that include a medical device, known as drug-device combinations, for a 3-month public consultation (see here). Stakeholders are invited to send their comments by 31 August 2019. Guidance is provided on dossier requirements for drug-device combinations (DDCs) in the context of a regulatory submission (marketing authorisation application and post-authorisation application). The types of DDCs within the scope of the guideline are medical devices that are integral to the medicinal product, co-packaged with the medicinal product or referenced in the medicinal product information and obtained separately. It is intended that the guideline will increase transparency and consistency of information in regulatory submissions, reducing work for all stakeholders and ultimately improving patient safety.
