U.S.-Swiss Safe Harbor Framework also covers personal data pertaining to legal entities

3 June 2013 – In the past, it was a common understanding that the "U.S.-Swiss Safe Harbor Framework" only covers the disclosure and transfer of personal data pertaining to individuals and not pertaining to legal entities (see news).

On 1 May 2013, the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner informed on its website that the "U.S.-Swiss Safe Harbor Framework" also covers the disclosure and transfer of personal data pertaining to legal entities. In practice, this will in many cases facilitate the transfer of personal data from Switzerland to recipients located in the USA that have certified under the U.S.-Swiss Safe Harbor Framework.
