Adrian Lobsiger approved as the new Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner

15 March 2016 – On 16 March 2016, the Swiss Federal Assembly approved the election of Adrian Lobsiger as the new Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner ("Commissioner").


The Swiss Federal Council had elected Adrian Lobsiger in November 2015 as successor of Hanspeter Thür, who retired by the end of November 2015 (see our news dated 19.11.2015). Today, the Swiss Federal Assembly confirmed the election of Adrian Lobsiger without discussion. The Commissioner is elected for a period of four years. It is not yet known at what date the new Commissioner will take office. Until now, Adrian Lobsiger has been Deputy Director and chief of staff ("Stabschef") at the Federal Office of Police fedpol.
