Afinum invests in Messenger App Threema

3 September 2020 – The German-Swiss private equity fund Afinum Management AG invests into Threema GmbH. Threema GmbH develops and operates the Swiss messenger app Threema, which has become popular with its strong focus on security and data protection and counts numerous DAX 30 companies, administrations and NGOs among its customer base.

Through the partnership with Afinum, the three founders and developers of Threema GmbH - Manuel Kasper, Silvan Engeler and Martin Blatter - are laying the foundation for continuity, further growth and an acceleration of product development. The three founders will retain a significant stake in Threema and will continue to lead the company.

Walder Wyss advised the three founders on all legal and tax aspects of the transaction. The Walder Wyss team is led by Florian Gunz Niedermann (Partner, Corporate/M&A) and includes Christian Lütolf (Managing Associate, Corporate/M&A), Fabienne Anner (Managing Associate, Corporate/M&A), Michael Isler (Partner, IP/IT & Data Protection), Maurus Winzap (Partner, Tax) and Janine Corti (Counsel, Tax).
