3 March 2022 – The revised Data Protection Act will be set into force on 1 September 2023. The Federal Council must still render a formal decision later this year, but the Federal Office of Justice (FOJ) issued a respective confirmation (available in German, French, Italian) on 3 March 2022.

The revDSG was originally intended to come into force mid-2022 and at the latest on 1 January 2023. The delay is probably due to the concerns of the business community which wanted an informal transition period before enacting the revised law. An additional reason for this delay can be found in the resistance shown towards the draft of the revised Data Protection Ordinance and the associated follow-up work.
