13 January 2023 – Currently, the illegal import of nasal sprays and laxatives has increased in Switzerland. Both are pharmaceuticals that are safe for use in short periods but contain a risk of dependency if they are used for a longer period. Swiss pharmacies only sell limited quantities and inform customers about the possible side effects. Since Pharmacies abroad are not subject to Swiss legislation on therapeutic products, they sometimes supply people in Switzerland with quantities harmful to health when ordered online. Swissmedic confiscates shipments with such large quantities and reports the pharmacies to the foreign supervisory authorities. In addition, Swissmedic advises against ordering medicines from abroad.
