24 November 2023 – During its meeting on 22 November 2023, the Federal Council opened the consultation procedure for amending the Federal Act on Health Insurance (HIA). The amendment proposes the introduction of mandatory insurance for incarcerated individuals without residence in Switzerland. This aims to ensure medical parity during detention. Additionally, cantons are to be granted the right to limit the choice of insurers and insurance models for incarcerated individuals.
