More efficient assistance in reducing debts for minors and other insured individuals

24 November 2023 – Minors can no longer be pursued because their parents have not paid health insurance premiums. At its meeting on 22 November 2023, the Federal Council decided to implement changes to the Federal Act on Health Insurance (HIA), the Federal Law on Debt Enforcement and Bankruptcy (DEBA), and the Ordinance on Health Insurance (KVV) concerning premium payment obligations. These changes also stipulate that insurers may initiate a maximum of two debt collection proceedings per year per insured person. Cantons can assume loss certificates, enabling more effective action against the indebtedness of the insured.
