Promotion of generics and price reduction for medicinal products

15 December 2023 – By adjusting the distribution share of pharmaceuticals, cheaper generics and biosimilars shall be promoted. Overall, this modification within the compulsory health insurance (obligatorische Krankenpflegeversicherung, OKP) leads to savings of around 60 million Swiss francs. At its meeting on 8 December 2023, the Federal Council adopted the corresponding amendment to the Ordinance on Health Insurance (HIO) and took note of the amendment to Ordinance on Healthcare Benefits (Krankenpflege-Leistungsverordnung, KLV).
