12 April 2024 – On 9 June 2024, the eligible Swiss electorate will vote on the popular initiative "For Freedom and Physical Integrity". In general terms, the initiative demands that in any case the consent of the person concerned be obtained before the state intervenes in their physical and mental integrity. The Federal Council and Parliament are recommending that the initiative be rejected because its core concern, physical and mental integrity, is already enshrined as a fundamental right in the Federal Constitution. In addition, it is unclear what concrete consequences acceptance of the initiative would have, for example for police work.
