Supply of medical devices is guaranteed

6 juillet 2022 – To ensure the supply with safe medical devices in Switzerland even without an updated Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA), the Federal Council has taken various fallback measures in 2021. For example, Switzerland unilaterally recognises EU certificates of conformity for medical devices. This ensures easy market access for medical devices from the EU. Various measures have also been adopted to ensure market surveillance. At its meeting of 29 June 2022, the Federal Council instructed the Department of Home Affairs (FDHA) together with the Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER) and the Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) to examine whether further accompanying measures are necessary. The background to this is the still outstanding update of the agreement with the EU on the mutual recognition of conformity assessments (MRA) in the area of medical devices and the associated discontinuation of trade facilitation. The analysis of the current supply situation and the catch-up measures has now shown that Switzerland's supply of safe medical devices is currently guaranteed.
