The polluter-pays principle in the Radiological Protection Act (RPA) is clarified

30 mars 2023 – The polluter-pays principle in the RPA must be specified, in particular to regulate the costs of supplying the population with iodine tablets and for remediation of contaminated radiological sites. For example, the operators of nuclear power plants (NPPs) are to be obliged in future to bear the costs incurred for the distribution of iodine tablets within a radius of 50 kilometres of a plant. At its meeting on 10 March 2023, the Federal Council submitted a corresponding amendment to the law for consultation. In addition, it has abolished the advance distribution of iodine tablets around the Mühleberg NPP in its ordinance.
