Federal Council adopts new admission criteria for service providers and standardises hospital planning requirements

24. Juni 2021 – The Federal Council gives the cantons the possibility to regulate the number of doctors with a permanent instrument. This can prevent overprovision in the healthcare system and curb cost growth. The Federal Council has also decided to further standardise the requirements for the planning of hospitals and nursing homes. The measure serves to increase the quality of care in the inpatient sector and to curb costs. To implement the measures, the Federal Council decided at its meeting on 23 June 2021 to bring into force the corresponding Ordinance on Maximum Numbers as well as an amendment to the Ordinance on Health Insurance.
