The Confederation approves first application for a cannabis pilot trial in Basel-Stadt
22. April 2022 – On 15 May 2021 an amendment to the Federal Narcotics Act (NarcA) has come into force allowing pilot trials involving the dispensing of Cannabis for non-medicinal purposes. These trials are intended to create a scientific basis for future legal regulation. The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) has approved the first pilot trial for the controlled dispensing of non-medical cannabis. It is a joint project of the University of Basel, the University Psychiatric Clinics and the Department of Health of Basel-Stadt on the sale of cannabis in pharmacies. The trial is taking place under strict conditions and is being scientifically monitored. The results should provide insights for the future legal regulation of cannabis.
