Evaluation of Covid-19 crisis management: Recommendations to the Federal Office of Public Health
29. April 2022 – In 2020, the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) commissioned an external evaluation of the management of the Covid-19 pandemic by summer 2021. The evaluation concludes that generally, the federal government and the cantons have managed the pandemic well and mostly responded appropriately to the threats of the pandemic. However, the analysis also showed that crisis preparation was inadequate in some cases and that crisis management did not function ideally in some areas especially at the beginning of the pandemic. The evaluation further contains recommendations for the FOPH. For example, it is generally recommended to better prepare for the next health crisis in terms of organization and logistics. To this end, the necessary resources should be secured and crisis management should be practiced regularly. The FOPH should also ensure that important actors are systematically involved in the preparation of decisions and the implementation of measures. This should increase the quality and acceptance of decisions, the external evaluation states.
