First completely robot-assisted surgery performed in Switzerland

21. Juli 2022 – The first completely robot-assisted bladder and rectum removal was performed at the Aarau Cantonal Hospital. In Switzerland, such a complex, purely robot-assisted, minimally invasive procedure has never been performed before. The surgery was performed with the da Vinci robot. The surgical robot transfers the doctor’s hand movements to the instruments with millimetre precision. A positive surgical result depends largely on the qualification and experience of the surgeon. The technical framework conditions are of secondary importance for the result. The use of the Da Vinci robot reduces inter alia blood loss, pain, and the risk of infection. In addition, the healing process and the duration of hospitalisation are shortened.
