Covid-19: Current high immunity in the population

26 agosto 2022 – At its meeting on 24 August 2022, the Federal Council informed about the current Covid-19 pandemic situation. After the numerous infections over the summer months during the Omicron BA.5 wave, immunity in the population is currently high. The Omicron sub-variant BA.5 has displaced BA.2 over the summer. After a peak at the beginning of July, the number of cases is currently stagnating at a lower level. However, waves of infection must be expected again in autumn. The wave of infection caused by the virus variant BA.5 has led to a significantly lower utilisation of intensive care units (IPS) by Covid-19 patients than earlier waves. Nevertheless, the number of hospitalisations increased overall in June 2022. The age group 80 years and older showed most clearly that non-vaccinated patients had to be hospitalised more often than vaccinated patients.
