Michael Isler is a partner in the product groups Intellectual Property, Information Technology and Data Protection. He regularly advises in complex outsourcing, technology transfer and platform projects from the conceptual and negotiation phase to dispute settlement. He further enjoys a vast experience in copyright, trademark and patent law. A particular focus of his work is dedicated to the life sciences and health sector. Michael Isler regularly publishes and lectures in his practice areas and takes an active role in several professional organizations. He is co-editor of Life Science Recht, the Swiss law journal for pharma, biotech and medtech.

Born in 1974, Michael Isler was educated at the Universities of Zurich (lic. iur. 2000) and Louvain and also holds a doctoral degree from the University of Lucerne (2011). Before joining a major law firm in Basel and Zurich in 2010, has worked for several years as inhouse counsel at a technology group and a global telecom infrastructure and service provider. He arrived at Walder Wyss in 2014.

Michael Isler's professional languages are German and English. He also speaks French and Dutch. He is registered with the Zurich Bar Registry and admitted to practice in all Switzerland.

SWICA Healthcare Organisation receives authorisation for telemedical treatment in the Canton of Zurich

The canton of Zurich has an extremely restrictive legislation for the licencing of telemedical treatments to patients. As an innovative health insurer, the SWICA Health Organisation has set itself the goal of providing patients throughout Switzerland with qualitatively optimised treatment via its telemedical offering from Winterthur. The Canton of Zurich has granted its first licence for telemedical services for a trial period of three years. 

Walder Wyss advised SWICA on this approval procedure. The team included Daniel Staffelbach (Partner Healthcare), Michael Isler (Partner, IP/IT) and Kerstin Noëlle Vokinger (Associate, Healthcare).


DPE acquires AWK Group

Deutsche Private Equity (DPE) acquires majority interest in AWK Group, one of the largest independent Swiss consulting companies for information technology and digitalization. 

Walder Wyss advised DPE on the transaction. Baloise acquires Movu

Baloise acquires Movu, Switzerland’s biggest digital platform for home-moving services. The transaction is subject to the approval of the regulator and will be completed in the next weeks.

Walder Wyss has acted as advisor to the selling founders and financial investors in all legal aspects of the transaction. The team was led by Florian Gunz Niedermann (Partner, Corporate/M&A) and further included Fabienne Anner, Samuel Lieberherr and Christian Lütolf (Associates/M&A),  Michael Isler (Partner, IP/IT) and Maurus Winzap (Partner, Tax).


Strategic partnership between Sanofi and Lonza

Sanofi and Lonza have entered into a strategic partnership to build and operate a large-scale mammalian cell culture facility. The facility, to be built in Visp, Switzerland, will be established through a joint venture with an initial investment of around CHF 290 million shared equally between Sanofi and Lonza. Jones & Day and Walder Wyss acted as legal counsels to Sanofi in this matter.

RWS acquires LUZ, Inc.

RWS Holdings plc, a world leading provider of intellectual property support services (patent translations, international patent filing solutions and searches), commercial translations and linguistic validation, has completed the acquisition of 100% of LUZ, Inc., a market leading Life Sciences language services provider based in San Francisco, for a cash consideration of USD82.5m.

Based in San Francisco, LUZ is a market leading life sciences translation provider, specializing in medical devices and regulatory activities. LUZ services a number of the world’s leading pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers, enjoying a preferred supplier relationship with certain customers. The acquisition strengthens RWS’s leading position in global Life Sciences both in the US and Europe.

Walder Wyss acted as RWS' legal advisor on that transaction. The team was led by Robert von Rosen (Partner, Corporate M&A) and further included Alexander Gutmans (Partner, Corporate M&A), Michael Isler (Partner, IP/IT), David M.
