Matthias Lötscher is a counsel with the Banking & Finance Team. He specializes in financial market regulation. Matthias advises Swiss and foreign financial institutions (i.e. banks, securities firms, fund management companies and asset managers) and insurance companies in regulatory matters and M&A transactions.

Matthias assists financial institutions in obtaining licenses and represents financial institutions, their members of the board and management, in investigations and enforcement proceedings brought by the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority FINMA and also coordinates such proceedings with foreign counsel.

Furthermore, Matthias advises philanthropic and non-profit organizations (e.g foundations) on legal and strategic matters and is also a member of strategic bodies.

Matthias was educated at the University of Berne (MLaw 2013) and the University of Texas at Austin School of Law (LL.M. 2019). Before joining Walder Wyss in 2015, Matthias gained working experience as a trainee in a law firm in Lucerne and at a District Court in the Canton of Lucerne.

Matthias’ professional languages are German and English. He is registered with the Zurich Bar Registry and admitted to practice in all Switzerland.
