Margaux Schroeter

Margaux Schroeter is an Attorney at Law, Associate at Walder Wyss in Geneva. She completed her academic training at the University of Fribourg, earning a Bachelor of Law in 2019 and a Master of Law in 2021, both with the mention summa cum laude. In 2024, she obtained the Certificate of Specialization in Advocacy from the University of Geneva. She obtained the Certificate of Advanced Legal Studies at the University of Geneva in 2024, and passed the Bar Exam in March 2026.

Holding a PhD in inheritance law, Margaux Schroeter is the author of the doctoral thesis “Les rapports successoraux : les inégalités créées par une institution destinée à les éviter”, published in October 2024 and awarded the distinction summa cum laude. Her work was honoured with two prestigious distinctions: the swisNot Prize, awarded every three years in recognition of outstanding contribution to the notarial profession in Switzerland, and the Successio Prize, granted annually to three doctoral theses in inheritance law.

In her thesis , the author highlights the urgent need for a comprehensive reform of the institution of the Hotchpot (Rapports in French; Ausgleichung in German). She conducts a detailed and critical analysis of the current regulatory framework and proposes legal provisions that could replace the current art. 626 ff CC in a forthcoming revision of inheritance law.

Alongside her studies, Margaux Schroeter worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Fribourg, first within the Chair of Private Law and Roman Law held by Prof. Dr Pascal Pichonnaz, and subsequently within the Chair of Civil Law held by Prof. Dr Maryse Pradervand-Kernen.
